About the designer

My name is Dougal Ann Walker and I am the designer of The Freckles Collection patterns. For most of my life, I have been involved in the creative process through sewing, knitting and crafts.

For 15 years, I designed and manufactured Freckleswear, a boutique line of children’s clothing. Bright colors and fun fabrics was the look!

My foray into the quilting world came around 1987 with a hand-piecing, hand-quilting Sampler class. After a trip to Quilt Market, I realized that stitchery/embroidery was making a come-back. This was my chance to combine hand-work, stitching, color, fabric, quilting, the many things I love doing, into one medium. A pattern that could teach stitching and quilting techniques was the answer.

I have taught in many of the shops in the Vancouver, British Columbia area. Interacting with students and the resulting feedback is very rewarding. I enjoy sharing my quilts and knowledge, through presentations, to Quilt Guilds and groups.

Exhibiting at International Quilt Market has given me fantastic exposure. The patterns can be found world-wide, namely Norway, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand as well as throughout North America.

"Quilter's Connection, a new Canadian magazine featuring Canadian designers, was launched in the fall of 2009. I was asked, by Heather McArthur, the editor and publisher, to design a pattern for the inaugural issue. The Tree Trimming Party was the result. The quilt measures 35" x 36" and features stitchery animals bringing their ornaments to decorate a tree. The line-drawings and thread charts are included with full instructions. This pattern is now available. Check out their website for this and other wonderful projects" www.quiltersconnection.ca

I am fortunate to have been featured in the Canadian Quilt Association magazine and a profile on Quilters News Network. In 2008 I designed a pattern for the Australian Patchwork and Quilting magazine, Vol. 17 #8 “A is for Aussie Animals”. One of the components to my patterns is research. Here is the result.  This pattern is now available.

My thanks to the wonderful stitchers and quilters who support the patterns.
